Large traditional street sale and flea market on July 14th in the medieval village of Ambierle
Ambierle, classified among the 'villages de caractère' of the Loire, hosts one of the largest street sales and flea markets in the Roannais every year on the traditional date of July 14th. The event unfolds in Place du Château Gaillard and the picturesque alleys of the town, at the foot of the Benedictine priory founded in the 11th century.
Ambierle's heritage setting gives this street sale a unique atmosphere. Up to 480 exhibitors set up their stands between half-timbered houses and the golden stone facades of Forez. You can find antiques and old furniture as well as bric-a-brac, vintage clothing, and decorative items. Professional second-hand dealers and antique dealers rub shoulders with private individuals clearing out attics and cellars, as well as local merchants and artisans.
The day is punctuated by entertainment, and on-site catering allows visitors to fully enjoy the event. The village of Ambierle, located between the wine-growing Côte Roannaise and the Forez plain, is worth an extended visit: the Alice Taverne museum dedicated to popular arts and traditions and the remarkable Flemish altarpiece of the priory are well worth seeing.
The great Ambierle street fair and flea market takes place on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, a public holiday, on Place du Château Gaillard and in the streets of the medieval village. Organized by the Ambierle Festival Committee, this traditional flea market brings together up to 480 exhibitors — second-hand dealers, antique dealers, private individuals, merchants, and artisans — from 4 AM until late afternoon. Free entry for bargain hunters, free parking, and on-site catering.
