The bargain hunter's rendezvous of the Albert country
In the Somme, the word "réderie" covers more than a simple flea market. It is a real social ritual, a tradition going back several generations. In Bouzincourt, a village of the Albert country, the annual spring réderie is one of the major events in local life. Held on the Place de la Mairie, it keeps a human and festive dimension.
Réderies stand out for their singular atmosphere. People speak loudly, joke around, negotiate with a smile. Exhibitors are mostly locals emptying their attics, cellars and garages. Prices are gentle, discussions lively, and the mid-morning coffee break is part of the ritual.
The square, large and central, is perfect for a réderie. Stalls display clothing, toys, books, crockery, knick-knacks, small appliances, tools, decor. Sometimes rarer items appear: old postcards, antique crockery, rustic furniture, old books.
Bouzincourt lies northwest of Albert, in the heart of a Somme region marked by World War I combat. Military cemeteries and memorials are part of the landscape. The réderie brings a cheerful note to this memory-laden territory.
Arrive early, bring small cash, chat with exhibitors. Exhibitor registration usually with the town hall or organising association weeks in advance.
