With 32 editions by 2026, Albert's Antique Weapons Salon is one of the essential rendezvous for militaria collectors in northern France. Organised by the Somme 1916 Museum Association, it benefits from genuine expertise.
The salon takes place at the Théâtre du Jeu-de-Paume, an iconic municipal hall on place Émile Leturcq. Central and indoor, it offers a comfortable setting conducive to careful examination of pieces.
The exhibitors cover all fields of militaria collecting: regulation antique weapons, uniforms, medals and decorations, insignia, equipment, military documents, period photographs, trench art, reference books. Authenticity is paramount, with strong emphasis on WWI items.
Albert is a town of about 10,000 inhabitants, at the heart of the 1916 Somme battlefield. Entirely destroyed during WWI, it was rebuilt in the 1920s in a remarkable art deco style. The Somme 1916 Museum, set in the city's medieval underground passages, offers a striking tour of trench life.
The public is split between seasoned collectors and curious visitors interested in the historic dimension. Children discover objects that speak directly of history. The €3 entry supports the museum association.
With 8.30 am - 2 pm opening hours, visitors can extend their day with the Somme 1916 Museum or Memorial sites: Thiepval, Beaumont-Hamel, La Boisselle.
