Browsing and short-supply-chain in a Haut-Poitou village
Berthegon's flea market pairs with a producers' market in late August in this small Haut-Poitou village, in northern Vienne. A great format combining browsing, local products and country atmosphere, led by community forces. A chance to discover local agriculture while bargain-hunting.
Berthegon is a small commune of some 250 inhabitants in northern Vienne, in the Haut-Poitou, at the Loudunais edge. Each late August, the village hosts an original event combining a traditional flea market with a local producers' market. This combined format offers visitors a rich, family-friendly terroir-based event.
Combining flea market and farmers' market is a winning formula: wider audience (browsers and local-food lovers), showcase for local producers (market gardeners, cheesemakers, beekeepers, livestock farmers, winemakers), and a true family day out — browse, taste, buy for dinner.
The Haut-Poitou is a rich agricultural area known for goat cheeses (chabichou, mothais sur feuille), vineyards (AOP Haut-Poitou), and livestock. Villages like Berthegon maintain strong rural identity with active community committees. Near Mirebeau (10 km), Neuville-de-Poitou (15 km), Loudun (25 km).
