Pentecost Monday chining in Loudunais
Doussay is a small village in northern Vienne, midway between Loudun and Mirebeau, in the Neuvillois/Loudunais zone. Its annual brocante is traditionally held on Pentecost Monday — 25 May 2026. A clever choice of bank holiday: lets working visitors enjoy an extra chining day, rooted in rural spring event tradition.
Private sellers from the village and nearby communes (Monts-sur-Guesnes, Saint-Jean-de-Sauves, Berthegon, Savigny-sous-Faye) join a few regional brocante pros. Village scale allows a relaxed atmosphere, great for long chats between sellers and buyers.
Rural commune stretching across typical northern-Vienne bocage: old farms, hedgerows, small lanes. Parish church and fine stone houses make up the discreet heritage.
Nearby: Monts-sur-Guesnes castle (15th c.) worth visiting, Loudun old town with square tower and Sainte-Croix collegiate. Haut-Poitou vineyards a bit south.
Long a French bank holiday, then solidarity day, often non-working again. For vide-greniers and brocantes historically a prized day: spring-summer weather, available crowds, festive tradition. Poitou villages like Doussay leverage this for major brocantes.
