The Bernay Antiques Fair: Elegance of the Past in a Medieval Setting

Every year in April, the town of Bernay hosts its Antiques Fair in the exceptional architectural setting of its abbey church. Over two days, professional dealers present the best of their selection: furniture from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, old paintings, art objects, ceramics, silverware, jewelry, and exceptional collector's items.

The Abbatiale de Bernay: An 11th-Century Gem

The fair takes place in the Abbatiale Notre-Dame de la Couture, considered one of the earliest major Romanesque constructions in Normandy. Founded around the year 1000 by Judith of Brittany, wife of Duke Richard II, this Benedictine abbey is a monument of prime importance in the history of Norman architecture. Its thick cylindrical columns, sculpted capitals, and imposing nave form a setting of striking beauty for the presentation of quality antiques.

The district capital of the Eure department, Bernay is a city of art and history with around 10,000 inhabitants, nestled in the Charentonne valley. Its half-timbered houses, its fine arts museum housed in the former abbey palace, and its medieval streets form a remarkable heritage setting. The 2026 edition of the Bernay Antiques Fair will be held on Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12 at the Abbatiale. This mid-April weekend, in the heart of the Norman spring, offers antique enthusiasts a rare opportunity to admire and acquire pieces selected by professionals in a first-rate historic monument.
