Annual village rendezvous in Baulne, crêpes and chining in the Essonne valley
The Baulne Village Association Vide-Grenier is an annual event organised by a local association in the heart of the village of Baulne (91590), in the Essonne valley. Every summer in June, 50 to 80 private sellers set up on the central village square for a convivial day with crêpes and drinks. Contact: 06 32 26 18 76 / [email protected]. Free entry.
Baulne (91590) is a rural Essonne village in the Juine valley, a tributary of the Essonne, on the edge of the Gâtinais français. With around 1,500 residents, it is a preserved rural commune far from dense periurban zones. The Juine ponds, damp meadows and wooded limestone hillsides create a remarkably gentle landscape perfect for nature walks and botanical discoveries.
The Baulne Village association is the driving force of local life. It organises year-round activities, but its annual June vide-grenier is the great summer rendezvous: each year in mid-June, Baulne and neighbouring commune residents (Cerny, La Ferté-Alais, Prunay-sur-Essonne) gather on the central village square for a day of chining and conviviality.
The Baulne vide-grenier represents the type of event that tends to disappear in periurbanised communes but survives strongly in rural villages that have kept their identity. In Baulne, the 50 to 80 sellers are almost exclusively private individuals from the village and surroundings. No professional dealers, no bulk sale stands: pure vide-grenier with grandmother's china, children's outgrown toys, accumulated trinkets, unneeded tools. This authenticity is rare. Experienced collectors know that these small village events still yield genuinely surprising finds: a complete Limoges porcelain set, a 1960s tin toy, an antique farm implement, a 19th-century recipe book.
The Baulne Village association adds a festive and gastronomic dimension: a volunteer-run crêpe and drinks stand operates all day. Sweet or savoury crêpes freshly prepared allow visitors to refuel between stalls. This modest but warm catering offer is emblematic of rural Essonne vide-greniers and contributes to the village-fête atmosphere.
