150 sellers in the historic town centre, Essonne valley and Gâtinais
La Ferté-Alais (91590) is an Essonne valley commune at the southern tip of the department, on the edge of the Gâtinais français Regional Natural Park. With some 5,000 residents, it is the hub of a dynamic rural living basin. La Ferté-Alais is known throughout Île-de-France for its medieval château dominating the valley and — above all — the Cerny-La Ferté-Alais air show, one of France's finest vintage aircraft gatherings (held each May-June).
The Belle Brocante, organised by BROC ÉVÉNEMENTS, fits perfectly into this heritage and tourist context. Every first Sunday of July, 150 sellers fill the historic town centre for a day of outdoor chining. Opening at 5am — very early — is characteristic of major brocantes where professionals and early risers need to arrive before daylight to spot interesting pieces.
The town centre retains its medieval and Renaissance character: cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, fine residences and the classified Saint-Étienne church. The château, perched on a rocky spur overlooking the Essonne valley, offers an exceptional panorama recalling this fortified town's strategic medieval importance. Chining among medieval facades, in alleys where history and the scent of old things mingle, is a unique experience.
