The great bargain hunters' gathering in the heart of the Deux-Sèvres bocage for Ascension Day
Ascension Thursday has long been one of the key dates in the French flea market calendar. In Couture-d'Argenson, a small village nestled in the bocage of southern Deux-Sèvres, this tradition is celebrated with an increasingly popular flea market. With around 175 exhibitors expected, the event ranks among the most popular in the department for this period.
The communal stadium of Couture-d'Argenson is transformed into a vast open-air browsing space. Stalls line the pitch and its surroundings, offering visitors a journey of discovery through antique furniture, crockery, books, toys, vintage clothing, garden tools and decorative objects.
This flea market is organised by the Couture-d'Argenson community centre, an association that drives the social and cultural life of the village throughout the year. The event contributes to the vitality of this rural commune and attracts visitors from far beyond its borders.
Couture-d'Argenson takes its name from the old French word for cultivated land and the Argenson forest that once covered this part of Poitou. The village, located near Chef-Boutonne, offers a peaceful and green setting typical of the Poitevin bocage.
