Every Ascension Thursday, the Association of Merchants of the port of Argelès-sur-Mer organizes its large annual car boot sale, which has become one of the major spring Catalan events. The port of Argelès, the largest marina in the Pyrénées-Orientales with some 800 rings, is transformed for the day into a vast bargain hunting area, where sailboats and fishing boats rub shoulders with exhibitors' stalls.

An exceptional setting between sea and Albères

The port of Argelès-sur-Mer offers a unique setting for a day of bargain hunting: on one side, the moored sailboats and the intense blue of the Mediterranean; on the other, the first green slopes of the Albères, the border massif that announces the Côte Vermeille and the creeks of Collioure. Exhibitors set up on the quays and the main esplanade, offering bargain hunters a luminous route, punctuated by the lapping of water and the cry of seagulls. A particularly pleasant walk in the first warmth of the Catalan spring.

Hundreds of exhibitors, a varied offer

This car boot sale usually attracts several hundred exhibitors, individuals and semi-professionals, who unpack from dawn their everyday items, trinkets, tableware, clothes, books, vinyls, toys, tools and sometimes beautiful collectibles. Catering is abundant thanks to the permanent terraces of the port, which offer Catalan tapas, seafood, Collioure anchovies and Roussillon wines. It is also an opportunity to let yourself be tempted by the many clothing, souvenir and marine decoration shops open all year round.
