Spring flea market in the Ponthieu capital
Abbeville, with 23,000 inhabitants, is the Somme's second town and historic capital of the Ponthieu. Its many flea markets perpetuate an old trading tradition, Abbeville having long been an important commercial hub via the canalised Somme and the wool trade.
Abbeville was particularly hit by WWII: bombed in 1940, it was nearly 70% destroyed, especially its magnificent medieval centre. The 1950s reconstruction gave the town a modern centre, with a few precious survivors such as the magnificent flamboyant Gothic Saint-Vulfran collegiate church.
The flea market mixes private sellers and semi-professionals: classic bric-Ã -brac, clothes, crockery, toys, books, vinyls; professional stalls with antique furniture, lighting, vintage items, regional bric-Ã -brac.
Abbeville is the gateway to the Bay of Somme, one of France's most remarkable natural sites. Hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Bargain hunters can easily extend their visit to Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, Le Crotoy or the Marquenterre park.
Scheduled on 12 April, the flea market arrives in a very active period for Picardy hunting, between the Easter Monday events and late April flea markets.
On Sunday 12 April 2026, Abbeville hosted its spring flea market. The town centre came alive with exhibitors setting up, a usual mix of private sellers and professionals attracted by the Abbeville market.
Under variable but dry weather, hunters shopped in a convivial atmosphere. Abbeville residents, visitors from the Vimeu and Picardy coast, and tourists heading to the Bay of Somme made up the varied audience.
