4th Châteauneuf Grand Braderie in Châtellerault

A historic braderie reborn

The Châteauneuf Grand Braderie is an old tradition of the Châteauneuf district on the right bank of the Vienne. Interrupted for 25 years, it was revived in 2023 by local associations determined to bring the event back. The 2026 edition on Sunday 26 April is the 4th since rebirth.

Châteauneuf, Châtellerault's historic district

One of the oldest Châtellerault districts, built from the 12th c. on the Vienne's right bank around Saint-Jean-Baptiste church. Long a working-class faubourg, it keeps an authentic feel with small streets, traditional houses, neighbourhood life. The braderie blends popular mood, friendliness and belonging.

32,000 inhabitants, second Vienne city after Poitiers. Built on metallurgy and armaments, it now renews itself around cultural and heritage projects. 30 min from Poitiers, 15 min from Futuroscope, 45 min from Tours.

The 2023 revival testifies to district vibrancy. Rapid success (each edition breaks attendance records) shows locals value the tradition. Organisers count on the 4th edition to anchor the rendezvous in the local calendar.

Visiting tips

Arrive morning. The district is pedestrianised for the day; use outer parking or riverbank parking. Combine with Châtellerault heritage: Henri IV bridge, Manufactory, Auto Moto Vélo museum, historic district. The braderie spans several streets and squares — allow 2-3h to cover it all.
