Traditional Whit Monday flea market in the streets of Wittisheim in the heart of the Grand Ried
The Wittisheim Flea Market is a traditional Whit Monday event in Bas-Rhin. Held every year on Monday 11 May 2026 in the village streets and Route de Muttersholtz, this emblematic Grand Ried event brings together antique dealers, private sellers and bargain hunters from across central Alsace. In the heart of this typical village located between Sélestat and Marckolsheim, exhibitors offer antique furniture, crockery, trinkets, books, toys, clothing and vintage items in a family and friendly atmosphere. On-site refreshments and food allow visitors to spend a full day browsing in this village of the Alsatian Ried.
The Wittisheim Flea Market is one of those traditional Whit Monday events that mark the Alsatian spring. Each year, the village turns into a huge open-air flea market, with exhibitors set up in the streets of the centre and notably on Route de Muttersholtz. The organising association welcomes professionals and private sellers who offer a wide variety of items: antique furniture, crockery, glassware, trinkets, light fixtures, books, postcards, antique toys, vintage clothing, tools and curiosities. On-site refreshments and food allow bargain hunters to taste Alsatian specialities, Flammekueche, sausages and local drinks, throughout the day. This event attracts several thousand visitors each year from neighbouring departments, taking advantage of the public holiday for a Sunday stroll in this typical Ried village.
Wittisheim is a commune of around 2,000 inhabitants located in the Alsatian Grand Ried, this wetland plain crossed by multiple arms of the Ill and the Rhine. The village, located about ten kilometres east of Sélestat, retains its rural Alsatian character with its half-timbered houses, parish church and streets lined with beautiful typical homes. The Grand Ried, an exceptional natural area largely classified under the Natura 2000 network, offers a unique landscape of wet meadows, alluvial forests, ried and groundwater-fed rivers. This territory, between the cereal plain and the foothills of the Vosges, is renowned for its ecological richness, its hiking trails, cycle paths and picturesque villages that have preserved their heritage and traditions.
