Car boot sale in the streets of the medieval village of Saint-Martin-Valmeroux, free pitches
Every spring, as Easter approaches, Saint-Martin-Valmeroux hosts its first car boot sale of the year. This event marks the beginning of the flea market and car boot sale season in Cantal and attracts the first bargain hunters eager to rediscover the pleasure of outdoor hunting after winter.
The car boot sale takes over the streets of the medieval village, particularly Rue des Gantiers and Rue de l'Église. These narrow, picturesque streets, lined with old stone and half-timbered houses, offer a unique backdrop for this event. The proximity of the medieval market hall and the parish church adds to the charm of this spring gathering.
Located at the confluence of the Maronne and several streams, Saint-Martin-Valmeroux is a village of character in Cantal, listed among the remarkable sites of the department. Its architectural heritage, inherited from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, makes it one of the most beautiful villages in the valley. The commune is located between Salers, a town listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in France, and Aurillac, a sub-prefecture of Cantal.
The originality of this car boot sale lies in the free pitches, which encourage wide participation. Exhibitors arrive from 6 am to set up under the direction of volunteer spotters. The perimeter is marked by barriers to ensure the safety and comfort of residents. Visitors enjoy a morning of bargain hunting in an authentic setting before continuing to explore the village.
