Car boot sale of the Walnut Festival in Nailhac, in the heart of Périgord Noir
Every summer, the village of Nailhac hosts a car boot sale as part of its famous Walnut Festival, a festive event celebrating this emblematic Périgord fruit. On Sundays, from 8 a.m., exhibitors set up in the village streets to offer bargain hunters second-hand items, trinkets, and curiosities, while the artisan and gourmet market offers local Périgord products.
The Nailhac Walnut Festival is organized by the association Nailhac en Fête, in partnership with the Confrérie de la Noix du Périgord de Nailhac, the association Hautefort Notre Patrimoine, and the municipality. Over two days, the festivities include storytelling walks, a pétanque competition, a regional meal, a parade of brotherhoods, an open-air mass, equestrian shows, and fireworks.
Nailhac is a small village in Périgord Noir, located near Hautefort and its castle. This corner of the Dordogne countryside, rich in ancient walnut trees, offers an authentic setting for this festival that perpetuates the agricultural and gastronomic traditions of Périgord.
Beyond the Sunday car boot sale, the Walnut Festival offers on Saturday a storytelling walk on the theme of the oak tree, a pétanque competition, and a regional dinner. On Sunday, equestrian shows punctuate the day at 10:30 a.m., 3 p.m., and 7 p.m., and a poetic performance on stilts is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The evening concludes with a paella meal and a torchlight procession followed by fireworks.
