Bargain hunting in the lanes of a perched village above the Nesque gorges
Monieux, a tiny village perched above the Nesque gorges, opens its lanes to a flea market combined with its funfair on 25 May 2026. Organised by the Festival Committee, this spring gathering blends village life, medieval heritage and a spectacular setting: the Sault plateau, emerging lavender and the canyon plunging towards the Nesque.
Monieux is one of those Provençal villages you almost discover by accident. Perched on a rocky spur, dominated by a medieval tower ruin, it marks the entrance to the Nesque gorges. In this rare setting, the Festival Committee hosts each spring a funfair alongside a flea market.
Stalls line the streets, small square and cobbled alleys. Visitors walk among the stands at the calm pace of a village of barely 160 inhabitants. Mainly private sellers offer tableware, old linens, toys, tools, books and Provençal curios.
On 25 May, Whit Monday, the whole village celebrates. Rides for children, refreshments, a community meal.
Monieux is inseparable from the Nesque gorges, best discovered from the panoramic D942 road, with the Castelleras viewpoint and the Saint-Michel chapel clinging to the cliff.
The Monieux flea market and funfair will take place on Monday 25 May 2026 (Whit Monday) in the village streets, above the Nesque gorges. Organised by the Festival Committee, this spring event gathers private sellers and visitors in a village-fair atmosphere. Free admission; refreshments on site.
