Car boot sale and creative arts organized by the club Le Clouquié at the cattle market of Laissac, in Aveyron
The club Le Clouquié, an exchange association based in Laissac-Sévérac-l'Église, organizes an annual car boot sale combined with creative arts in the cattle market square. From 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM, private sellers and creative artisans mingle in this unique setting, offering visitors a dual experience: hunting for second-hand objects at low prices and discovering original artisanal creations. The exhibitor fee is set at 2 euros per linear meter, with no prior reservation required, and spots are allocated freely.
The car boot sale takes place at the Foirail bovins square, a site rich in history and character. Every Tuesday morning, this market hosts the second largest livestock market in France, where nearly 300 professionals trade over 70,000 animals annually, including 50,000 cattle and 20,000 sheep. The Laissac fairs have been documented since 1422, and the commercial tradition has never ceased. In case of bad weather, the organizers have the covered sheep market available, ensuring the event proceeds regardless of weather conditions.
The new commune of Laissac-Sévérac-l'Église, created on January 1, 2016, brings together two villages in the Aveyron valley with approximately 2,250 inhabitants. Laissac boasts exceptional archaeological heritage with the oppidum of Montmerlhe, a Gallic fortified city of over 100 hectares occupied by the Ruthènes between the 2nd and 1st centuries BC, the largest in Aveyron. Among the remarkable monuments are the 16th-century Tour Rességuier, the Château de Maquefabes, a former mill from 1305 transformed into a castle in 1656, and the 19th-century church. Sévérac-l'Église is distinguished by its Griffoul fountain, the village emblem, its semi-circular towers, and its ancient gates dating from 1569.
The car boot sale offers a wide variety of second-hand items typical of rural Aveyron events: clothing and accessories, crockery and trinkets, books and games, tools and furniture, toys, and decorative items. The creative arts section adds an original dimension to the event, with local artisans showcasing their handmade creations: artisanal jewelry, wooden objects, ceramics, textiles, and other unique pieces. This combination makes this day a particularly rich event for lovers of beautiful finds.
The car boot sale and creative arts event takes place from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM at the Foirail bovins square in Laissac. Admission is free for visitors. Exhibitors can set up freely without reservation at a rate of 2 euros per linear meter, by presenting a photocopy of their identity card (or professional card for professionals). Refreshments and sandwiches are available on site. Laissac is located between Rodez and Séverac-le-Château, easily accessible via the RN 88.
