In the heart of the Rambouillet forest, the flea market at the Centre Équestre la Licorne de la Fontaine in Bonnelles offers every June a rather unique bargain-hunting experience: around fifty exhibitors set up in the verdant grounds of a riding centre, in support of the Au Bonheur des Vieux Chevaux association, which rescues and cares for retired horses. A country morning where families can combine good finds, a walk in nature and an encounter with the horses.
A flea market unlike any other
Set at the foot of the Rambouillet forest, the Centre Équestre la Licorne de la Fontaine opens its gates each year, one Sunday in June, for a flea market unlike any other. Here, exhibitors do not set up on a paved square but in a large shady area, amid the riding arenas and paddocks, a stone's throw from the stables. Around fifty stalls offer the classic fare of a family flea market: toys, clothes, crockery, books, decorative items, and sometimes second-hand riding equipment that delights local riders.
Au Bonheur des Vieux Chevaux, a cause that brings people together
The event is organised for the benefit of the Au Bonheur des Vieux Chevaux association, which rescues, cares for and offers a peaceful retirement to elderly horses withdrawn from clubs, breeding farms or sports circuits. Visitors can meet the residents at the end of their visit.
A bucolic atmosphere in the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse
Bonnelles is a village of just over 2,000 inhabitants in the Regional Natural Park of the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse. Its forest setting and architectural heritage (old château, classified park, church) make it one of the most charming villages in the southern Yvelines.
A day out for the family
The event is designed for families: free admission, refreshments, on-site toilets, and above all the reassuring presence of horses. Many visitors take the opportunity to walk in the nearby forest or visit the Chevreuse Regional Park.
