Sallertaine is a mythical Vendée Marais Breton village: once an island surrounded by water, it still feels like a bourg perched on a limestone mound. Its 1st May flea market opens the brocante season locally. 2026: Friday 1 May, former football pitch, rue de Verdun, 6:30am-6pm.

An exceptional village setting

About 3,000 inhabitants. Known for its boatman heritage (former island, now famed Calèches et Barques Sallertainoises), art-and-craft artisans in the old alleys, very active community life. The flea market rides on this ecosystem.

What you'll find

Private sellers: clothes, toys, crockery, books, records, knick-knacks, small furniture, tools, garden items. Some older Marais Breton brocante: rural objects, household textiles, Vendée faïence, peasant tools. Lovely local-culture finds.

Booking required

Mandatory advance booking, preferably by email with the organising association. Many exhibitors — book early. Setup from 6:30am, opening to public at early morning.
