Annual car boot sale in June in Espéraza, around 100 exhibitors in the Aude valley
Espéraza is an emblematic commune in the Haute Vallée de l'Aude, known for being a major industrial center in the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly for hat making. The Hat-Making Museum, housed in a former factory, still bears witness to this flourishing era. The commune is also at the heart of the Cathar Country, surrounded by remarkable castles and historical sites.
It is in this historical and landscape context that the annual car boot sale is held every June, attracting residents of the valley and passing tourists.
With its approximately 100 exhibitors, the Espéraza car boot sale offers a wide variety of items to discover. Individuals from the commune and neighboring villages — Couiza, Limoux, Quillan — offer everything that has been cluttering their attics and cellars for years:
June is a particularly favorable month for outdoor events in the Aude valley. Mild temperatures, the Languedoc sunshine, and long days create an ideal setting for strolling between the stalls. The car boot sale benefits from the tourist dynamism of the season, which sees an influx of visitors attracted by the region's Cathar castles, such as Peyrepertuse, Quéribus, or Puivert.
The organizing association makes every effort to ensure a warm welcome, with refreshments and light catering available on site. Volunteers handle logistics from early morning to allow exhibitors to set up comfortably.
The Haute Vallée de l'Aude is an exceptional region for nature and history lovers. The river Aude, which flows through Espéraza, offers beautiful walks along its banks. The Gorges de la Pierre Lys and the Défilé de l'Aude are just a few minutes from the commune. Paleontology enthusiasts will appreciate the proximity of Rennes-les-Bains and the dinosaur fossil discovery sites, of which Espéraza also has a remarkable museum.
The car boot sale is thus a great opportunity to combine bargain hunting with the discovery of this extraordinary region, between the Pyrenees, Corbières, and Minervois.
Espéraza is accessible from Carcassonne via the D118 (about 45 minutes south), from Limoux (25 minutes), or from Quillan (15 minutes south). Parking in the village.
Generally from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, depending on local organization.
