Annual car boot sale organized by the Neffes Festival Committee, a village near Gap
Each year, the Neffes Festival Committee organizes a car boot sale on the Place de l'Église of this village perched above Gap. Exhibitors set up their stalls at the foot of the church, in an authentic village setting typical of the Hautes-Alpes.
Neffes is a small commune in the Hautes-Alpes located at about 800 meters altitude, a few kilometers southeast of Gap. The village overlooks the Durance valley and offers a remarkable panorama of the surrounding mountains, notably the Pic de Bure and the foothills of the Dévoluy. The Romanesque church and the stone houses of the old village form a harmonious mountain ensemble.
Exhibitors offer a wide range of second-hand items: old tableware, trinkets, frames and mirrors, books and magazines, toys, clothing, small appliances, tools, sports equipment, vinyl records and CDs, home textiles, and decorative objects. The very attractive prices make these village car boot sales an economical and ecological alternative to new consumption.
Festival committees play a central role in the life of villages in the Hautes-Alpes. By organizing car boot sales, village festivals, and neighborhood meals, these volunteer associations maintain social cohesion in a sparsely populated department where every unifying event counts. The Neffes car boot sale exemplifies this alpine village tradition.
