Saint-Étienne-du-Grès is a charming Provençal village located between Tarascon and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, at the gates of the Regional Natural Park of the Alpilles. Nicknamed the "Gateway to the Alpilles", this village stretches between the limestone reliefs of the massif and the Crau plain. Its heritage testifies to a rich history: the mysterious Gallo-Roman statue of the Mourgue stands on the central square, the remains of the Via Domitia recall the passage of the Romans, and the chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Château, perched on a hill, has watched over the village for centuries. The Saint Éloi festival, celebrated in August with the traditional carreto ramado, demonstrates the village's attachment to its Provençal traditions.
The Very Large Car Boot Sale is held outdoors on the market square, a vast space that also hosts the weekly Puces de Provence (Flea Market of Provence). Early morning treasure hunters, present from opening at 6 am, take advantage of the first hours to spot the best deals before the Provençal heat sets in. The sellers, exclusively private individuals, offer the contents of their attics, cellars, and closets, guaranteeing an authentic and diverse selection. The refreshment stand on site allows visitors to quench their thirst between finds, while children enjoy the pony rides organized by Cavalpilles.
The Very Large Car Boot Sale operates without prior reservation. Exhibitors present themselves directly at the entrance with identification and the fee for their pitch. Prices are €10 for a car, €15 with a trailer, and €20 for a van, with a €5 supplement for an additional trailer. The sale of food, new items, alcohol, tobacco, animals, weapons, objects of dubious origin, and counterfeits is strictly prohibited. Parking is available nearby and restrooms are provided on site.
