Plant exchange and sale in the courtyard of the Gasville-Oisème town hall
The Troc Plantes de Gasville-Oisème is organized every spring by the Association Jeunesse et Loisirs (AJL) in the courtyard of the town hall of this village in the western suburbs of Chartres (28300). Individuals and gardening enthusiasts meet to exchange, buy, and sell plants with expert advice from a specialist amateur, in a friendly atmosphere for the benefit of local youth activities.
Every spring, the courtyard of the Gasville-Oisème town hall (28300) transforms into a true plant market. Organized by the Association Jeunesse et Loisirs (AJL), the Troc Plantes is an original event that combines sales, exchanges, and sharing of botanical knowledge. Regular gardeners and enthusiastic beginners mingle around tables filled with all sorts of plants, in a fraternal atmosphere typical of village association events.
Unlike a simple flea market, the Troc Plantes de Gasville-Oisème is based on an exchange principle: participants bring plants from their gardens (cuttings, seedlings, potted plants, perennials, vegetables, aromatic herbs) and exchange them with other enthusiasts. The sale of plants selected by Martine Pichon, an informed amateur and local gardening figure, complements the offer and allows everyone to leave with original or rare varieties.
One of the major advantages of the Troc Plantes is the opportunity to receive personalized advice from the exhibitors and volunteers present. More than a hundred varieties of plants are gathered at each edition, making it a true living encyclopedia of the garden. For budding gardeners and experts alike, it's an opportunity to enrich their knowledge of plants adapted to the climate of the Centre-Val de Loire region and the soils of the Pays Chartrain.
Gasville-Oisème is a commune bordering Chartres, within the Chartres Métropole area. A village with a preserved atmosphere despite its proximity to the prefecture, it has an active associative fabric, of which the AJL is a part. The town hall courtyard provides an ideal setting for this spring event, being both central and accessible for the inhabitants of the village and neighboring communes.
The proceeds from the sale of plants during the Troc Plantes are entirely reinvested in financing the activities offered by the AJL for children and young people aged 3 to 18 in Gasville-Oisème. This solidarity and intergenerational purpose gives an additional dimension to the event: browsing among the plants also means contributing to the leisure activities of the village's youth. The AJL is the result of the evolution of the former Association de Parents d'Élèves (APE), which has broadened its mission over the years.
