Corbeil-Essonnes and the Tarterets estate

Corbeil-Essonnes is an Essonne city of around 48,000 inhabitants, 35 km south of Paris at the confluence of the Seine and Essonne rivers. A historic industrial city, it is now undergoing urban renewal under the Grand Paris Sud agglomeration framework.

The Tarterets estate is one of Corbeil-Essonnes's large residential complexes, built in the 1960s–70s for working-class families. Today a priority urban policy area, it benefits from major renovation programmes. The Place du marché des Tarterets, on Avenue Strathkelvin, is the neighbourhood's beating heart, hosting the weekly food market and the annual spring flea market.

A genuine neighbourhood event

Between 51 and 250 private sellers set up on the marketplace, offering clothes, toys, books, furniture and knick-knacks at affordable prices. Hours: 7 am to 6 pm. Seller fee: €8 per linear metre. Free entry for visitors. The mix of generations, backgrounds and languages gives this event its unique, lively character.
