Bargain hunting in the highest village of Var
Perched at 1094 meters, Bargème is the highest village in the Var department. Dominated by the ruins of its feudal castle built in the 13th century by the powerful Pontevès family, this gem of the Haut-Var belongs to the prestigious Most Beautiful Villages of France ranking. Within this exceptional medieval setting, partially surrounded by the remnants of its ramparts, a flea market of rare authenticity takes place every spring.
The entirely pedestrian village is perfect for strolling. Stalls are set up on the central square and along the cobbled streets lined with stone houses and old tiled roofs. At every turn, vaulted passages and small shady squares offer a picturesque backdrop. Expect bric-à-brac, dishware, clothing, toys, books, trinkets and everyday objects from local attics.
The flea market doubles as a tourist outing. On clear days, the view reaches dozens of kilometers, from the Haut-Var plains to the first foothills of the Alps.
Bargème is accessible from Comps-sur-Artuby via the D21. The village is pedestrian only, parking available at the entrance. About 50 minutes from Draguignan.
Usually from 8am to 5pm. Arrive early for the best finds.
