Car boot sale on the Plessé Hippodrome, with mussels and fries
Plessé hosts one of the most unique car boot sales in Loire-Atlantique every July: a second-hand goods market organized on the very tracks of the municipal hippodrome. This extraordinary setting, usually reserved for horse racing, offers a unique perspective on the exhibitors' stands, who set up in this open, green space for a day of treasure hunting and summer conviviality.
The Plessé Hippodrome is one of the few active rural racecourses in the region. Its track, stands, and carefully maintained lawns provide an exceptional setting for organizing a car boot sale. The vast available area allows exhibitors to be accommodated in optimal comfort conditions, with large spaces between stands that facilitate visitor flow. The clear panorama and surrounding greenery contribute to the special atmosphere of this event.
Plessé is a commune in the north of Loire-Atlantique, in the heart of the bocage between La Grande Brière and the banks of the Vilaine, halfway between Redon and Saint-Nazaire. This charming town, surrounded by preserved rural landscapes, has a rich associative and cultural life, of which the hippodrome races and this summer car boot sale are two emblematic expressions. Its natural and built heritage makes it a popular destination for walkers and lovers of local heritage.
The pitches, offered at €15 for a 6m by 5m area, are among the most generous offered at car boot sales in the region. This size allows exhibitors to comfortably display furniture, clothing, trinkets, and bulky items. The day continues pleasantly with the mussels and fries event, a local culinary tradition that delights exhibitors and visitors alike with a convivial meal. This combination of flea market and gastronomy is characteristic of the festive spirit that prevails at this summer event.
The Plessé Hippodrome car boot sale is more than just a second-hand market: it's a village festival that brings the entire local community together for a day of sharing and conviviality. Exhibitors come from neighboring towns to share a unique moment on this race track transformed into a temporary market, and visitors don't miss out on enjoying the festive atmosphere and the mussels and fries tasting.
