Summer bargain hunting in the Cordais
Souel is a tiny Cordais commune in northern Tarn, only minutes from the famous medieval city of Cordes-sur-Ciel. Its annual flea market, organized by the festival committee in midsummer, is one of those lovely village events where a few dozen exhibitors turn the square into a treasure market for a day.
The village sits on the Vère slopes, in a landscape typical of northern Tarn: small causses, Gaillac vineyards, and countryside. The village square hosts most exhibitors — a few stalls sometimes extend to nearby streets. The atmosphere is that of village flea markets, where there is time to chat with each seller.
Private sellers with the classics: adult and children's clothing, toys, books, crockery, linen, tools, knick-knacks, small furniture, vinyl, and family bric-a-brac. The modest size makes it a quiet event, ideal for leisurely hunting. Lovers of country items, antique utensils, and family crockery often strike gold.
Use the event to explore the area: Cordes-sur-Ciel 5 min away, Gaillac vineyards, bastide villages of Castelnau-de-Montmiral and Puycelsi, rolling Causse landscapes, and local producers (Gaillac wines, cheese, honey). A great chance to combine shopping and tourism in one of the finest Tarn corners.
