Themed flea market dedicated to seamstresses and creative hobbies in the heart of Brie
In the heart of the Seine-et-Marne Brie region, the small village of Amillis hosts each spring an unusual flea market entirely dedicated to sewing and creative hobbies. This original event stands out radically from generalist flea markets by offering exclusively thread, fabric, patterns, specialized books, vintage buttons, and haberdashery. No knick-knacks, no furniture, no finished creations: only raw materials and tools of the trade find their place on the stalls.
Visitors sometimes come from afar for this event, which has become a benchmark in the circle of seamstresses from the ÃŽle-de-France region. Vintage fabrics, haberdashery coupons, old braids, laces, ribbons, mother-of-pearl buttons, Burda or Simplicity patterns from the 60s-70s, fashion books, and specialized magazines make up an offering that delights the most discerning bargain hunters. Quilters find happiness in printed cottons, patchwork lovers in matching scraps, and theater costumers in rare accessories.
Amillis is a rural village of around 700 inhabitants located in the canton of Coulommiers, in the heart of the Brie des Morin region. Its Saint-Pierre church, its traditional Brie farms, and its bocage landscape offer a bucolic setting perfect for this friendly event. The commune, voluntary and dynamic on the associative level, has developed several original themed events that contribute to its reputation in eastern Seine-et-Marne.
Far from the hustle and bustle of large urban flea markets, the Seamstresses' Flea Market of Amillis cultivates a salon atmosphere for enthusiasts where advice, techniques, and anecdotes are exchanged. The exhibitors, often themselves seamstresses, are ready to share their knowledge and guide buyers to the ideal material for such or such project. This human and educational dimension is all the charm of the event.
Seine-et-Marne and more broadly the ÃŽle-de-France region have a long tradition in sewing and haberdashery trades. Many workshops and factories thrived here in the 19th and 20th centuries, leaving a rich heritage of materials and tools that flea market dealers and collectors put back into circulation. The Amillis Flea Market naturally fits into this lineage and contributes to the transmission of know-how sometimes threatened with disappearance.
The flea market takes place in the village center, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free for visitors. Amillis is accessible from Coulommiers (about 10 km) or from the A4 motorway via the Coulommiers exit. Free parking is available on the outskirts of the village. Catering is possible in the village shops or in nearby Coulommiers.
