The flea market held in connection with the European Heritage Days on Place de l'Abbé Pierre de Porcaro
Every September, Saint-Germain-en-Laye celebrates its exceptional heritage through several cultural events. The Brocante du Patrimoine is part of this dynamic and is traditionally held during the European Heritage Days, on Place de l'Abbé Pierre de Porcaro, close to the town's iconic sites. This choice is not incidental: by combining bargain hunting with heritage festivities, the event plays on the complementarity between old objects and places steeped in history.
Saint-Germain-en-Laye is one of the most prestigious towns in the Yvelines and Ile-de-France. Former residence of the kings of France and birthplace of Louis XIV, it preserves an exceptional architectural heritage: the Château-Vieux, rebuilt under Francis I and today housing the National Museum of Archaeology, the Grande Terrasse designed by André Le Nôtre with its breathtaking view of the Seine and Paris, the Henri IV pavilions, and a town centre with refined shopping streets.
The Heritage Flea Market, oriented more towards flea market than pure vide-grenier, brings together mainly semi-professional and professional exhibitors offering quality merchandise: antique furniture (chests of drawers, chairs, desks), small art objects, crockery (earthenware, porcelain, glassware), silverware, paintings, engravings, antique jewelry, clocks, postcards, old papers, old books, knick-knacks and curiosities. A few private individuals round out this offering with family finds.
Scheduled in mid-September, the Heritage Flea Market takes place over the European Heritage Days weekend. Visitors can thus combine a visit to the National Museum of Archaeology (often free admission that weekend), visits to exceptionally open heritage sites, and strolling among the flea market stalls. A formula that appeals to a cultured public, curious about both history and old objects.
Place de l'Abbé Pierre de Porcaro, where the flea market takes place, is surrounded by shopping streets and restaurants. A stop at one of the cafes or restaurants in the centre of Saint-Germain-en-Laye extends the bargain-hunting pleasure. The Château park, accessible free of charge, then invites you to walk, particularly on the Grande Terrasse at the end of the day.
Saint-Germain-en-Laye has excellent transport links: RER A (terminus Saint-Germain-en-Laye) from Paris-Étoile, La Défense and Auber, Transilien line L, A14 and A13 motorways. Several underground car parks allow parking near the city centre. Admission is free for visitors.
