Pentecost Monday tradition in a perched Provençal village
Rougiers is a small perched village in the Var, between Saint-Maximin and Brignoles, overlooked by medieval castle ruins. Each year on Pentecost Monday it hosts a big flea market through its picturesque streets, drawing loyal hunters from Provence Verte and beyond. In 2026, Pentecost falls on 24 May, so the event is Monday 25 May 2026.
Run by the town hall, it blends village flea market and professional brocante. Sellers are welcomed 5.30-7am. The very affordable €3 per linear metre stand fee reflects a commitment to keep it popular and accessible.
The village's narrow alleys, stone houses, church and small squares make a natural backdrop. Stalls spread through the streets, and morning smells of coffee and fresh bread enhance the hunt.
Welcomed 5.30-7am. €3/lm. Register at the town hall: +33 4 98 05 93 30 or [email protected]. First-come first-served, so regulars book early.
Park on the outskirts, arrive before 8am. Comfortable shoes (sloping alleys), sturdy bag, cash. Small refreshment stalls appear on the squares.
Extend the day in Provence Verte: castle ruins above the village, Pic d'Olègre, or Saint-Maximin Basilica. Local Côtes de Provence wineries open for Pentecost tastings.
