The major Earth sciences gathering in the Amiens metropolis
The Rivery Geology Show is the 22nd edition of this major regional event dedicated to minerals, fossils and meteorites. Organized by the Picard Geological Group at the Jean Cayeux Socio-cultural Center in Rivery (Amiens Metropolis), it offers more than 70 meters of exhibition, ongoing conferences and free expert appraisals of finds brought by visitors.
For more than two decades, the Rivery Geology Show has established itself as one of the major gatherings for mineralogy and paleontology in northern France. Organized by the Picard Geological Group, an Amiens association founded to promote Earth sciences to the general public, it celebrates with its 22nd edition a rare longevity for this type of event.
The vocation of the Rivery Geology Show goes far beyond a mere commercial fair. The organizers' stated objective is to demonstrate that geology is not an impenetrable science, but an accessible field for all. With more than 70 linear meters of exhibition, the show offers an educational journey structured around two main themes: minerals and their spectacular crystallizations, and fossils and their testimony to the history of life.
The 22nd edition will focus on geoclimatic events behind major animal extinctions, with the disappearance of mammoths at the end of the Quaternary as a guiding thread. These ongoing conferences, projected throughout the show, allow visitors to learn about the great upheavals that marked Earth's history: glaciations, warming, meteorite impacts, mass extinctions.
A great originality of the show: visitors are strongly encouraged to bring their own finds for free expert appraisal. Fossils collected on the beaches of the Somme Bay, minerals gathered on vacation, prehistoric objects found in Picard fields, suspected meteorites: members of the Picard Geological Group and professional exhibitors take the time to examine each piece.
On the commercial side, exhibitors from all over France offer a remarkably varied selection: spectacular crystals and geodes (amethysts, smoky quartz, colored fluorites), raw minerals, cut precious stones, fossils from all geological ages (Jurassic ammonites, Paleozoic trilobites, Carboniferous plants, Tertiary shark teeth), meteorites, natural stone jewelry.
Rivery is a town in the Amiens metropolis located on the right bank of the Somme. Easily accessible from Amiens by public transport, it offers a practical setting for this scale of event. The Jean Cayeux Socio-cultural Center, a municipal facility located on rue Baudrez next to the town hall, is regularly used for this type of large event.
