Bargain hunting at the municipal park at the gates of Amiens
The June Rivery flea market takes place every year in the municipal park of this community bordering Amiens. With about fifty private exhibitors, the event offers a peaceful day of bargain hunting in a green setting, a stone's throw from the Picardy metropolis and the famous Amiens hortillonnages. A rendezvous appreciated by Amiens bargain hunters.
Rivery is a community of 5,000 inhabitants located immediately east of Amiens, forming with the prefecture and its other suburbs the Amiens metropolis. The village has retained its own identity despite its proximity to the big city, notably thanks to its privileged location on the heights overlooking the Amiens hortillonnages, this unique heritage of floating gardens on the Somme. Every year, the municipal park hosts two flea markets in the year, including the June one.
The Rivery municipal park offers a particularly pleasant setting for a flea market: green spaces, trees, alleys, relative tranquility away from urban traffic. The fifty or so private exhibitors set up within this space, allowing bargain hunters to enjoy a day of bargain hunting outdoors in a much more soothing environment than the urban flea markets of Amiens. This configuration particularly appeals to families, who appreciate being able to let the children play while the parents browse.
The 50 private exhibitors offer the typical flea market range: dishware and porcelain, linen, clothes for children and adults, old and new toys, books and comics, records, cassettes, DVDs, small furniture, trinkets, decorative items, tools, childcare items, board games. The offer is varied and renewed from year to year, with a notable presence of young families emptying attics and children's bedrooms at the pace of passing years. A boon for family bargain hunters.
Visitors to the Rivery flea market benefit from an ideal location to extend the day. The Rivery belvedere offers a remarkable view of the hortillonnages, these unique floating gardens fed by the Somme and its rieux. A few minutes away, Amiens unfolds its treasures: the Notre-Dame cathedral classified by UNESCO, the Saint-Leu and Jules-Verne circus districts, the Museum of Picardy. A perfect day combining morning bargain hunting at the Rivery park and discovery of the Picardy capital in the afternoon.
