The open-air flea market on the rampart esplanade of Riquewihr, a medieval village on the Wine Route
The Riquewihr Flea Market takes over the rampart esplanade, Rue des Remparts, each year in this listed medieval village on the Alsace Wine Route (68340). Open-air flea market and car boot sale, in an exceptional picturesque setting. Free entry.
The Riquewihr Flea Market is one of the most picturesque flea markets in Alsace. Every year, on May 31st, the esplanade des remparts of this exceptional village transforms into a vast space for bargain hunters and exhibitors offering flea market items, car boot sale goods, and antiques. The setting — the 16th-century medieval ramparts, the defense towers, and the flower-adorned half-timbered houses — gives the event a unique atmosphere, blending the passion for treasure hunting with the pleasure of strolling through one of France's most beautiful villages.
Riquewihr (68340) is a commune of about 1,200 inhabitants, regularly listed among the most beautiful villages in France. Its almost intact ramparts, its Renaissance and Baroque half-timbered houses adorned with Virginia creeper and geraniums, its Dolder (13th-century belfry tower), its Communication Museum, and its numerous wine cellars make it a must-visit location in Alsace. The commune is located in the heart of the vineyards, between the Schoenenbourg and Sporen Grand Crus, and produces world-renowned white wines. The Rue des Remparts, which runs along the medieval walls, offers an ideal setting for an open-air market in a relaxed and warm atmosphere.
The Riquewihr Flea Market brings together individuals and small antique dealers offering a wide variety of items:
Beyond its tourist appeal, the Riquewihr Flea Market is an event rooted in the local life of the village and the region. Residents and visitors mingle in a festive and relaxed atmosphere, taking advantage of the good weather to browse the exhibitors' tables, find unexpected treasures, and chat with the sellers. The open-air flea market, set against the ramparts, allows visitors to combine the pleasure of treasure hunting with a visit to the medieval village and a wine tasting at one of the many cellars open at this time of year.
The market takes place outdoors along the esplanade des remparts, Rue des Remparts. Entry is free. Riquewihr is accessible from Colmar via the D415 (approx. 15 minutes) or from Ribeauvillé via the Route des Vins (approx. 10 minutes). Parking is available at the entrance of the village — the historic center of Riquewihr is pedestrianized. In case of bad weather, exhibitors adapt under their marquees.
