The great autumn réderie of the Nièvre valley
The Autumn Réderie of Flixecourt is a favorite event among bargain hunters in the Nièvre valley, this discreet valley of the Somme once famous for its jute mills. Every October, the streets of this small industrial town fill with stalls where individuals and a few professionals offer bric-à-brac, clothing, toys, crockery and furniture at low prices.
Flixecourt, a small town located about twenty kilometers northwest of Amiens in the Nièvre valley, perpetuates every autumn the Picard tradition of the réderie with its October event. The word réderie, specific to the Somme department and the Picard borders, refers to this large, popular flea market that animates the streets of the region's towns.
Flixecourt is an atypical town: its industrial past, marked by the Saint Frères establishments that made its fortune thanks to jute spinning in the 19th and 20th centuries, has left a unique architectural imprint. The streets feature former workers' housing and the remains of factories that recall the textile golden age of the valley.
The offer is that of a true neighborhood réderie: exhibitors, mostly individuals from Flixecourt and surrounding towns, offer bric-à-brac in the broadest sense. You'll find antique crockery, books, records, clothing for the whole family, toys, board games, small decorations, household linen, tools, sometimes antique furniture and trinkets. Prices are deliberately low.
The Flixecourt Réderie retains the popular and warm character of such events in the Somme. Residents meet, exhibitors chat with their neighbors, children wander freely between the stalls looking for toys or comics. Cafes remain open and street food accompanies this day of bargain hunting.
Beyond the réderie, a visit to Flixecourt can be an opportunity to explore the Nièvre valley, a small tributary of the Somme, lined with wet meadows and former mills. The town is well served by national road 1 and makes a pleasant stop between Amiens and Abbeville.
The 2026 Autumn Réderie of Flixecourt takes place on Sunday, October 18, 2026 in the streets of the town center. A large traditional Picard réderie, it brings together individuals and a few professionals for a day of bargain hunting in the Nièvre valley.
