Hunting in the village of scientist Réaumur
There is no edition scheduled in 2026 for this event. This page remains accessible to archive the history of the manifestation and will be updated if a new edition is announced.
Réaumur is a small village of about 550 in the Vendée Haut-Bocage, south-east of the département. Its name is inseparable from René-Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur, 18th-century scientist who invented the graduated thermometer bearing his name and made major advances in metallurgy, entomology and zoology. The Réaumur château, where he lived, is still visible.
The 6-7 June 2026 brocante and estate sale is a special event: the "vide-maison" format means the complete contents of a property are sold — often yielding exceptional finds. This edition is notably at Prieuré Saint-Pierre, 2 rue du Prieuré, with possibly a second site at 15 rue de l'Adret.
An "estate sale" empties a house or property entirely, furniture and objects included. Unlike a standard flea market, you discover the story of a family or place through its objects. Prices are often tighter than professional brocantes and items can be exceptional: old furniture, linen, crockery, books, decor, tools, farming gear...
Réaumur deserves a visit for its medieval castle, Saint-Denis church, Prieuré Saint-Pierre (brocante venue), and hiking paths in the Haut-Bocage. Near Pouzauges (a "Petite Cité de Caractère"), Puy du Fou and La Châtaigneraie — an interesting Vendée bocage weekend stop.
Come early Saturday for choice; suitable vehicle for furniture; cash for small negotiations; return Sunday for possible last-minute drops.
Pouzauges (10 min, Petite Cité de Caractère); Montournais; Mont Mercure; Puy du Fou 20 min; La Châtaigneraie 15 min.
