Every Sunday morning, from 8 am to 2 pm, Porto-Vecchio's Avenue de Bastia transforms into a lively and supportive second-hand market. The Porto-Vecchio Weekly Car Boot Sale is an event rooted in the local community, bringing together individual sellers and visitors around pre-owned goods, in a typically Corsican spirit of conviviality.
The unique feature of this car boot sale is its rotating nature: each Sunday, the proceeds of the event go to a different association among four committed organizations in the extreme south of Corsica:
The association rotation schedule is available from the Porto-Vecchio Tourist Office.
Nestled at the southern tip of Corsica, Porto-Vecchio (20137) is a commune in Corse-du-Sud renowned for its white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and Genoese citadel perched on a rocky promontory. With over 11,000 year-round residents and considerable tourist traffic in the summer, the town offers an ideal setting for this Sunday market, which attracts both locals and holidaymakers.
Avenue de Bastia is a busy thoroughfare in the town, making it easily accessible on foot or by car from the town center and surrounding residential areas.
Access to the car boot sale is free for visitors. Individuals wishing to have a seller's spot should contact the organizing association for the relevant week, whose contact details are published in the annual schedule from the Porto-Vecchio Tourist Office. Only individuals are admitted as exhibitors — flea market professionals are not accepted.
This Sunday event promotes responsible consumption and the reuse of items while supporting various local causes, ranging from animal welfare to environmental protection and patient support. A fine example of the solidarity economy at work in the heart of the extreme south of Corsica.
