The seamstresses' flea market in Monts at the Espace Jean Cocteau, creative supplies market
The Espace culturel Jean Cocteau in Monts hosts the Puces de couturières, an original event dedicated to lovers of sewing, haberdashery, and creative hobbies. Up to 31 private exhibitors sell and exchange fabric scraps, balls of wool, silks, buttons, ribbons, beads, second-hand sewing machines, sewing boxes, and sewing books. The event runs from 9:30 AM to 5 PM and offers introductory sewing workshops in the morning (10 AM-12 PM) and afternoon (2 PM-4:30 PM) for adults and children aged 10 and up.
Monts is a commune south of Tours Métropole, crossed by the Indre river and bordered by vast wooded areas. The Espace Jean Cocteau, a municipal cultural facility, hosts shows, exhibitions, and events throughout the year. The Puces de couturières are part of the textile tradition of Touraine, a region where silk production and weaving were long important activities. Heritage enthusiasts can extend their visit to the Château de Couzières or go as far as Azay-le-Rideau, a few kilometers away.
The Puces de couturières combine reuse and creativity. Admission is free, and a friendly space with light refreshments allows for exchanges between enthusiasts. The introductory workshops are open to everyone, from beginners to experienced sewers.
