La Fabrique à Chiffons, a Cévenole collaborative workshop

La Fabrique à Chiffons is an association founded in April 2022 by Sara Laurent, a professional costume designer with over twenty years of experience. Based in Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort, at the gateway to the Cévennes, it has established itself as a reference point for fashion and textile creation enthusiasts in the Gard department.

The association offers a collaborative textile workshop, a space for creation and sharing where professionals and amateurs meet. It promotes local textile know-how and contributes to the cultural and socio-economic vitality of the region. The Puces Couture are one of its flagship events, bringing together the community of sewers and designers from the Gard and neighboring departments.

Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort, cradle of sericulture

It is particularly symbolic that the Puces Couture are held in Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort, a village whose history is intimately linked to the textile industry and sericulture—silkworm farming. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the Silk Mill was one of the most important industrial establishments in the Gard. Today, converted into a cultural space, the Mill bears witness to this sericultural past.
