Spring car boot sale in Prades, capital of the Conflent and city of the Pablo Casals Festival
The Summer White Car Boot Sale sets up every spring at 23 avenue du Pla de Dalt in Prades. From 6:30 AM, private exhibitors offer bargain hunters from the Conflent and Roussillon their treasures: clothes (with a summery white theme referenced in the name), toys, books, tableware, trinkets, small furniture, decorative items, household linen and curiosities of all kinds.
Sub-prefecture of the Pyrénées-Orientales and capital of the Conflent, Prades is nestled at the foot of the imposing Canigou, sacred mountain of the Catalans rising to 2,784 meters. The town is world-famous for the Pablo Casals Festival, an international chamber music festival founded in 1950 by the legendary exiled Catalan cellist. Every summer, the greatest classical musicians gather at Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa abbey and at Saint-Pierre church in Prades.
Prades is also famous for its cherries, its authentic Catalan markets, its proximity to the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa (10th century) and the priory of Serrabone, jewels of Catalan Romanesque art. The town is an ideal starting point for hiking in the Canigou massif.
