Autumn browsing in Civraisien
Payroux is a small commune of around 300 inhabitants in southern Vienne, in Civraisien-en-Poitou, minutes from Civray and near the Charente and Haute-Vienne borders. A discreet rural village surrounded by fields, meadows and woods, part of those communes where community life keeps social ties and animates the calendar. The October flea market is one of the village's rendezvous.
Strategic choice with several assets. Less competition than summer, more browsers available. Exhibitors often price better — unsold stock or pre-winter clearing. Autumn weather suits quiet browsing with soft light and fine colours.
Endearing rural southern-Vienne area around Civray. Bocage, shaded valleys, pale-stone villages, religious heritage (many Romanesque churches, notably remarkable Saint-Nicolas of Civray with carved Romanesque portal). Near Cognac vineyards and Pineau des Charentes, preserved natural zones. A fine stop for authentic rural tourism.
Charroux (Most Beautiful Village, 15 km) with Saint-Sauveur abbey and towers; Civray (10 km) with magnificent Romanesque church; Confolens (Charente, 20 km) with medieval old town. Many hiking trails and natural sites like the Charente valley.
