Every month from April to October, the association Pattes de Velours organizes a car boot sale in the Véragne parking lot in Laragne-Montéglin. This initiative helps fund the association's animal welfare activities while offering the residents of Buëch a regular opportunity to hunt for bargains.
Located in the south of the Hautes-Alpes department, Laragne-Montéglin is a small town in the Buëch valley, halfway between Gap and Sisteron. The town is known for its Provençal market, abundant sunshine, and its lifestyle between scrubland and mountains. The Véragne parking lot, a large open-air space on the edge of the town center, is an ideal location for this regular car boot sale.
The Pattes de Velours association is dedicated to the welfare of cats and animals in need in the Buëch region. The profits from each car boot sale are donated to veterinary care, sterilization, and rehoming of the animals taken in. Volunteers are dedicated to organizing and welcoming exhibitors.
Exhibitors offer a wide range of second-hand items: antique tableware, trinkets, frames and mirrors, books and magazines, toys, clothes, small appliances, tools, sports equipment, vinyl records and CDs, home textiles, and decorative objects. In the Hautes-Alpes, you can also regularly find typical mountain items: old agricultural tools, cowbells, Savoyard furniture, vintage skis, snowshoes, and hiking equipment. Prices are generally very attractive, making these car boot sales an economical and ecological alternative to buying new.
The Hautes-Alpes department, the least populated in metropolitan France, compensates for its low density with a particularly dynamic associative life. From March to October, car boot sales and flea markets punctuate the life of the Alpine villages, offering as many opportunities to hunt for bargains as to meet neighbors. The summer season, with the influx of tourists and holidaymakers, multiplies the opportunities: passing visitors gladly stop to browse the stalls, sometimes discovering unsuspected Alpine treasures. The exceptional mountain setting of the department adds a unique dimension to these events, with grandiose panoramas and the pure air of the summits.
The car boot sale is open to visitors from 7 am to 4 pm. A 5-meter pitch (with vehicle parked alongside) costs 10 euros, by reservation. Entry is free for visitors.
