The Village Fête flea market, the heart of summer in Paizay-le-Sec

Paizay-le-Sec is a small commune of around 450 residents in the Montmorillon arrondissement, between Chauvigny to the west and Saint-Savin to the east. Each summer the village fête animates local life and its flea market is one of the day's highlights. The 2026 edition is scheduled for Saturday 25 July, as listed on Brocorama.

Typical of the village flea markets that make the Poitou countryside charming: authentic rural setting, mostly local sellers from surrounding communes (Saint-Pierre-de-Maillé, Vicq-sur-Gartempe, La Bussière, Pleumartin), and a family atmosphere far from urban crowds.

The flea market is part of the wider village fête, usually with traditional entertainment, a refreshment stand, a country meal and sometimes a dance evening or show. That combination fête + treasure hunting is the event's charm: visitors come for the whole day, meet neighbours, share convivial moments.

The village lies in a heritage-rich triangle: 15 min from Chauvigny (five medieval fortresses and Géants du Ciel); 20 min from Saint-Savin (UNESCO abbey with exceptional frescoes); 25 min from La Roche-Posay (thermal spa specialised in dermatology). The village has a pretty church in the landscape between Vienne and Gartempe rivers.

Tips

Village flea markets are smaller than city ones but often have softer prices and sometimes surprising finds. Arrive early and chat with sellers — a great way to hear local stories.
