Flea market and brocante every August 15th in the heart of the medieval bastide of Montcabrier
Every August 15th, the medieval bastide of Montcabrier (46700) hosts its famous flea market and brocante, organized by the village's inter-associations. Over 100 exhibitors fill the narrow streets and central square of this bastide founded in 1297. A must-see event in the Quercy blanc region, from 7 am to 7 pm, with refreshments and food available on site.
Montcabrier is one of the most beautiful medieval bastides in the Lot, founded in 1297 by seneschal Guy de Caprier for King Philip IV the Fair. Perched on the borders of Quercy, Agenais, and Périgord, this bastide overlooks the Thèze valley and retains its original grid layout, arcades, half-timbered houses, and 14th-century Saint-Louis church. It is in this exceptional medieval setting that one of the most popular flea markets and brocantes in the Lot takes place every August 15th.
The inter-associations of Montcabrier mobilize their volunteers each year to welcome over 100 exhibitors to the heart of the bastide. Second-hand dealers, amateur antique dealers, and individuals take over the medieval streets, the central square, and its arcades to offer a varied and quality selection: antique furniture, tableware, books, clothing, decorative items, tools, trinkets, and curiosities of all kinds.
The flea market and brocante runs from 7 am to 7 pm. Exhibitors book their spot (approximately 10 m², 5 meters frontage and 2 meters depth) for a fee of 16 euros, payable upon registration. After 8:30 am, unassigned spots are reserved. For information and registration, contact 07 57 09 77 44 or [email protected], or go directly to the Montcabrier town hall, 15 place de la Bastide, 46700 Montcabrier. A dedicated website is available at www.brocante-montcabrier.fr.
The bastide of Montcabrier is classified among the most beautiful villages in France. Its Saint-Louis church, covered market hall, arcaded houses, and panoramas of the valley make it a remarkable tourist site. Pestilhac Castle, visible from the bastide, adds an additional historical and landscape dimension. The commune has about 350 inhabitants and attracts many visitors each summer to discover this exceptional medieval heritage.
Montcabrier is accessible from Puy-l'Évêque (8 km north), from Fumel (15 km west), and from Cahors (40 km east). The brocante site is accessible on foot from the parking lots outside the bastide.
The Montcabrier bastide flea market and brocante returns on August 15, 2026. Over 100 exhibitors expected, 7 am-7 pm, free admission. Registration: 07 57 09 77 44 / [email protected].
