Treasure hunting in the heart of the Deux-Sèvres countryside, among tumuli and golden stones
Each spring, the commune of Messé opens its streets and squares to private sellers for a garage sale that brings this small village of around two hundred souls to life. Located in the canton of Lezay, Messé offers a typically rural setting, between cereal fields, bocage hedgerows and limestone buildings, lending the event an authentic and peaceful atmosphere.
Messé is not just a peaceful farming village: the commune is home to the Montiou tumuli, two burial mounds with dolmenic chambers classified as historic monuments since 1986, witnesses to human occupation dating back to the Neolithic period. The Roche-Élie keep, listed as a historic monument, completes this remarkable heritage. Browsing at Messé means strolling through a territory where history surfaces at every turn.
Reserved for private sellers, the Messé garage sale offers a classic but always surprising range: old crockery, childhood toys, clothing, books, trinkets, small tools and decorative items. Prices, set by the residents themselves, remain very accessible, delighting families and budget-conscious bargain hunters.
Messé (79120), approximately 40 km south of Parthenay and 35 km east of Niort, accessible via departmental roads from Lezay or Chenay.
