Flea market, car boot sale and regional products on the château square of Coupiac, a medieval village in southern Aveyron in the heart of the Parc des Grands Causses
The Brocante Vide-Grenier et Produits Régionaux de Coupiac is a friendly summer event held annually in the Château square, at the foot of the imposing 15th-century flamboyant Gothic fortress that overlooks this small village in southern Aveyron. Organized by the UCA (Union of Commerce and Crafts of the municipality of Coupiac), this event combines antique hunting, a car boot sale, and the discovery of local Aveyron products offered by local producers and artisans. Coupiac, nestled in a green valley watered by the Mousse river within the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park, offers an exceptional heritage setting: its château, formerly owned by the Counts of Rodez and then the Viscounts of Panat, features ribbed vaults, mullioned windows, and accolade arches characteristic of the flamboyant Gothic style. This event is distinct from the famous Brocante des Gueux held in August in the village's streets and alleys.
Every summer, the Château square in Coupiac transforms into an open-air market where treasure hunters, families, and lovers of local products mingle. The Brocante Vide-Grenier et Produits Régionaux, organized by the UCA Coupiac (Union of Commerce and Crafts), offers an original concept combining the discovery of second-hand items with the tasting of local specialties. At the foot of the imposing 15th-century fortress, private and professional exhibitors display their stalls, while local producers and artisans present the flavors of Aveyron: farmhouse cured meats, sheep's milk cheeses, mountain honey, artisanal jams, and homemade pastries.
Coupiac is a village of about 500 inhabitants nestled in a green valley watered by the Mousse river, in the south of the Aveyron department, in the Occitanie region. Part of the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park, the village is dominated by its residential castle, which looks like a medieval fortress and is one of the best-preserved in the region. Formerly owned by the Counts of Rodez and then the Viscounts of Panat, the castle largely dates from the second half of the 15th century and features a remarkable flamboyant Gothic style: ribbed vaults, mullioned windows, accolade arches, and architectural curiosities such as a rare ball-and-socket gunport and a magnificent polylobed oculus. The village has retained its cobbled streets, old houses, and fountains, offering an authentic setting for this day of treasure hunting and discovery.
The Château de Coupiac houses the Musée rural du bois (Rural Wood Museum) on the second floor, which traces the history of the village, intimately linked to woodworking trades: cabinetmaking, sculpture, old tools, and traditional know-how. In the summer, the château offers evening shows (“Le Grand Chambardement”), treasure hunts for children, and basket weaving demonstrations on Mondays. Visitors can explore the many furnished rooms of the château to discover daily life in the Middle Ages through illustrated panels and permanent exhibitions. The village also hosts "Les lundis au pays" evening gourmet markets throughout the summer, showcasing the gastronomic richness and vitality of this southern Aveyron region.
The Coupiac flea market and car boot sale offers visitors a varied range of items:
The Brocante Vide-Grenier et Produits Régionaux in July should not be confused with the famous Brocante des Gueux, another unmissable event in Coupiac held every first Sunday of August for over thirty-seven editions. The Brocante des Gueux takes over all the streets and alleys of the village at the foot of the castle and includes a medieval parade at 11 am. The July event, more intimate, focuses on the Château square and places more emphasis on regional products and conviviality around the Aveyron terroir.
The Brocante Vide-Grenier et Produits Régionaux takes place on the Château square in Coupiac (12550). Admission is free for visitors. The event is organized by the UCA Coupiac (Union of Commerce and Crafts). After treasure hunting, visitors can extend their day with a visit to the Château de Coupiac and its Musée rural du bois, or a stroll through the medieval streets of the village.
The Brocante Vide-Grenier et Produits Régionaux de Coupiac returns on Sunday, July 26, 2026, to the Château square. Flea market, car boot sale, and regional products at the foot of the 15th-century flamboyant Gothic castle. Free admission. Organized by UCA Coupiac.
Coupiac is located 60 km south of Rodez via the D902 and D33, and 40 km northeast of Lacaune. Parking is available near the Château square.
