Evening bargain hunting in the heart of the Val de Nièvre
The Flixecourt semi-nocturnal flea market is an original event held on a Friday evening on rue de Verdun, around the Bar tabac l'Usine. With its 150 exhibitors, this event attracts bargain hunters and curious people for an evening of cool bargain hunting. A friendly and unexpected format in this industrial town of the Val de Nièvre, northwest of Amiens.
Bargain hunting at dusk: that is the originality of the Flixecourt semi-nocturnal flea market. Set up on Friday evening on rue de Verdun, around the Bar tabac l'Usine, the event brings together no less than 150 exhibitors in a format rare in the Somme department. This unusual timing appeals to bargain hunters tired of classic Sunday flea markets, and allows many visitors, active during the week, to enjoy a bargain hunting session at the end of the workday.
The semi-nocturnal configuration, between late afternoon and early evening, transforms bargain hunting into a social event. Exhibitors light their lamps, bargain hunters stroll in fading light, the terraces of the Bar tabac l'Usine and neighboring shops fill up, and the street takes on the air of a village festival. This particular atmosphere, between flea market and festive animation, gives the event a strong identity rarely found elsewhere in the department.
The 150 exhibitors, mixing private individuals and area professionals, offer a wide assortment: antique and vintage furniture, dishware, linen, books, records, toys, clothes, trinkets, tools, comics, postcards, old papers and collectibles. Variety is the order of the day, with sometimes some beautiful pieces related to the industrial past of Flixecourt, once the capital of Picardy textile with the Saint Frères spinning mills.
Flixecourt is a town of 3,000 inhabitants located about twenty kilometers northwest of Amiens, in the Nièvre valley. The town still bears the imprint of its major industrial past: in the 19th and 20th centuries, the Saint Frères spinning mills employed thousands of workers and made the city one of the major textile centers of France. This working-class heritage is found in the architecture of the town: workers' housing, old factories, miners' rows. The semi-nocturnal flea market is part of the revitalization of a town center that is gradually regaining its animation. An original rendezvous not to be missed for Somme bargain hunters.
