Themed musical flea market at the Foyer rural of Chaumes-en-Brie, in the footsteps of the Couperins
The Musical Flea Market of Chaumes-en-Brie is a unique themed event in Seine-et-Marne, devoted to the musical universe in all its forms. Old instruments, sheet music, vinyls, books, rare records, and musical accessories take over the Foyer rural on Boulevard Quinton in Chaumes, a town dear to the Couperin dynasty. An event that combines musical passion and the pleasure of bargain hunting in a friendly atmosphere.
In spring, the commune of Chaumes-en-Brie hosts at the Foyer rural on Boulevard Quinton an extraordinary themed flea market dedicated to the musical universe. A true rarity in the Seine-et-Marne calendar of events, this flea market brings together about twenty specialized exhibitors around instruments, sound media, and musical documentation. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., music lovers, amateur or professional musicians, vinyl collectors, and curious visitors meet to browse in a muffled and passionate atmosphere.
The stands offer a wide variety of music-related items: string, wind, and percussion instruments, sometimes old or collectible, period scores, educational methods, books on composers, biographies, history of music. Record enthusiasts find 33 and 45 rpm vinyls, rare albums, box sets, but also CDs and tapes for more recent collections. Accessories, metronomes, music stands, cases complete an offer reserved for a knowledgeable public or those wishing to become one.
Chaumes-en-Brie was not chosen at random to host this musical flea market. The commune is the historical cradle of the famous Couperin dynasty, a family of musicians and composers who profoundly marked French baroque music in the 17th and 18th centuries. François Couperin known as the Great, virtuoso organist and harpsichordist, remains a major figure in the world baroque repertoire. The city maintains this musical memory through events like the festival Sur les Pas des Couperin, which animates the village in April around ancient and classical music.
The flea market takes place at the Foyer rural, Boulevard Quinton, an emblematic venue of Chaumes' associative life. This warm and accessible place allows exhibitors and visitors to be welcomed in good conditions, sheltered from spring weather. Free admission guarantees a wide attendance, including amateur musicians from the territory but also music lovers who have come from further afield for this special occasion.
