Spring garden sale in Chaumes-en-Brie, in the heart of Seine-et-Marne Brie
Every year in May, Chaumes-en-Brie organizes a garden sale that attracts gardening enthusiasts from all over Brie. This themed event, distinct from classic garage sales, focuses exclusively on the garden and outdoor spaces universe. About 45 exhibitors set up their stalls in the town, offering a wide choice of items for greenery enthusiasts, from the most rustic to the most decorative.
The garden sale stands out for the richness of its themed offering. You can find old gardening tools (spades, pruning shears, zinc watering cans, wheelbarrows), terracotta, stoneware, or cast iron pots and planters, outdoor furniture (chairs, tables, wrought iron benches), decoration (statues, weather vanes, birdhouses), heirloom seeds and plants, as well as horticultural books and magazines. Lovers of recycling and object repurposing also find happiness with industrial or utilitarian pieces that can take on a second life in a garden.
Chaumes-en-Brie is a commune of around 4,000 inhabitants located in the heart of Brie, halfway between Paris and Provins. Cradle of the famous Couperin family, a dynasty of baroque musicians of which François Couperin the Great is the most illustrious figure, the city has a rich heritage history. Its Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul church, its old houses, and its picturesque town offer a charming setting for the event. The commune is also known for its festival Sur les Pas des Couperin which animates local cultural life.
The garden sale is part of the dynamic of spring events that animate the department when nature reclaims its rights. In Seine-et-Marne, these themed events are particularly appreciated because they allow amateur gardeners to find rare or old objects at soft prices, in a friendly atmosphere and outside traditional commercial circuits. The formula attracts both inhabitants of the territory and ÃŽle-de-France residents in search of original finds for their gardens.
The region of Chaumes-en-Brie offers multiple attractions to the visitor: the nearby Armainvilliers forest, the Blandy-les-Tours castle, Vaux-le-Vicomte about thirty kilometers away, Provins and its medieval ramparts within reach. Seine-et-Marne also has many remarkable gardens that testify to a way of life where the garden holds a central place. A day at the Chaumes garden sale can easily be extended by discovering this exceptional landscape heritage.
