Every May 1st, the medieval bastide of Pellegrue comes alive with a car boot sale combined with a flower market. Private sellers offer clothing, toys, books, crockery, trinkets, and various objects, while nursery owners and horticulturists present seasonal plants, flowers, shrubs, and herbs. The alleys of the bastide are adorned with colors and scents for this festive spring day.
Pellegrue is a village of about 1,200 inhabitants located at the eastern edge of Entre-deux-Mers, on the border of Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne. This bastide, founded in the 13th century, retains its characteristic checkerboard plan with its central arcaded square, narrow streets, and half-timbered houses. The village is a small service hub for the surrounding rural communities. The vineyards produce wines under the Bordeaux and Entre-deux-Mers appellations. The bastide of Pellegrue is one of the best-preserved in the south of Gironde.
The May 1st car boot sale and flower market has become a must-attend event in Pellegrue. The combination of flea market stalls and plant stands creates a unique spring atmosphere under the arcades of the bastide. The refreshments and food stalls allow for a longer visit. Visitors often take the opportunity to discover the medieval heritage of the village.
The Pellegrue car boot sale and flower market will be held on Friday, May 1st, 2026, on the bastide square. Free admission, refreshments.
