Flea market and antique market on the central square of Lupiac, d'Artagnan's birthplace in the heart of Gers
For over 25 years, the village of Lupiac, the birthplace of Charles de Batz de Castelmore — the real d'Artagnan —, has hosted a monthly flea market on its central square. Under the arcades of this Gascon bastide, dealers and antique dealers offer regional furniture, antique objects, curiosities, and trinkets in a heritage setting steeped in musketeer history.
Lupiac (32290) is an exceptional Gascon village, known worldwide as the birthplace of Charles de Batz de Castelmore, Count d'Artagnan, the musketeer immortalized by Alexandre Dumas. It is on the central square of this 13th-century bastide that a monthly flea market, popular with antique and curiosity enthusiasts from Gers, has been held for over 25 years.
The arcades of Lupiac's square house the stalls of dealers and antique dealers who come to offer their selection: traditional Gascon furniture, folk art objects, earthenware, brassware, old books, trinkets, and small craft furniture. The quality of the offerings and the architectural setting of the bastide make this flea market a regular event for bargain hunters in Armagnac and Gers.
Dominated by the Château de Castelmore, the birthplace of the famous King's Musketeers captain, Lupiac retains remarkable medieval heritage: its checkerboard bastide plan, its fortified church, its half-timbered houses, and its covered square. The village also houses the Musée de d'Artagnan, inaugurated in 2019, which retraces the real life of the Gascon musketeer. The d'Artagnan Festival, in August, completes the cultural calendar of this village of 300 inhabitants.
The monthly flea market of Lupiac embodies the Gascon spirit of conviviality and exchange. On market days, the village comes alive, cafés open their terraces, and discussions between collectors and merchants give the square a warm atmosphere. It is the ideal opportunity to combine a visit to the d'Artagnan museum with a bargain hunting session under the arcades.
